Software for Recording & Mixing Podcasts
- GarageBand -
Apple's really easy to use software with which you
can record your voice, and mix it together with other
sounds. You can then add in images for an "enhanced" podcast.
- QuickTime
Pro -The "Pro" version of QuickTime
($30) allows you to record audio as well as export
in a variety of formats. Tutorials on recording are
available for Mac and Windows
- Audacity -
A free, open source software for recording and editing
sounds. (Mac & Win)
- iMovie -
A great resource for making Video Podcasts. It comes
with every Mac and is easy to use for both images and
audio. Allows panning and zooming of images.

A very interesting-looking "all-in-one" package

MegaSeg -
This is a "big dog" software, more like something
you'd run a radio show with, but it's worth taking

Soundflower is a free Mac OS X system extension that allows
applications to pass audio to other applications. Useful
when trying to get more than one audio source to a recording
application.

In - A useful Mac OS X utility that helps you use
the "line
in" (microphone) jack on your computer for any
audio input (think tape decks, record turntables, etc)

Source - A Mac OS X menu item that allows you to easily
change the audio input on your computer.
Feedburner -
Feedburner takes your "regular" RSS feed
and passes it through their service, allowing you to
count subscribers, item downloads and a number of other
useful, helpful things.
LibSyn -
LibSyn is an inexpensive hosting solution for podcasts; unlimited
bandwidth for 5 bucks a month
Vodcaster -
A neat utility that does a great job of creating RSS/XML
files for your podcast "feeds"
Levelator -
Amazing; Free software that runs on Windows or OS X
(universal binary) that adjusts the audio levels within
your podcast or other audio file for variations in
levels.

Recording Sound on your Computer - A very good, brief
overview of how to record sound of all sorts on your
computer. If you've never done it before, this is a good
place to start for information, especially for Windows
users.
